Many years ago, I made a powerful decision to let go of the toxic influences in my life. I realised that the people we surround ourselves with shape our destiny, so I chose to focus only on those who truly nourished my soul. I also try to avoid the superficial chatter, because a fulfilling life is about deep, meaningful, supportive connections.
One strategy I used was to create three distinct groups of friends, each aligned with different passions of mine. This allowed me to have rich, fulfilling conversations without the fear of judgment or embarrassment. By doing this, I made sure that I always had the right people in my life to support my journey and growth. We all meet up weekly or monthly, to keep our relationship strong.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. It’s as if you gave me permission to let go of those superficial and non reciprocal relationships. Your words speak so much of my truth for continuing to seek out those heart felt relationships that touch an emotional connection. As I grow and struggle through a difficult time, I am aware of those relationships that no longer serve me and drain my energy.
I absolutely agree!! I find this with relationships in my life as well and at 51 I find ease and comfort sharing more reciprocity in relationsthips then trying to care take someone else all the time and not feel the same in return.
I’ve also struggled with feeling needy for desiring deep connection or feeling unsatisfied with having only surface-level interactions with people. I’m realizing that while every friendship brings something different to our lives, really leaning into the ones that make us feel deeply seen and understood is so important.
I’m 30 years older than you and am just coming to this same place. This was a well articulated primer on reciprocity but fuller, to me at least, as emotional constancy. Thank you for it.
"Lately, I've been releasing the idea that I'm needy because I want to be cared for and seen deeply." Oh my goodness, yes. May I have the courage to follow you in this!
you deserve to have people in your life who value and appreciate you.
matching energy is important. i have found that as i continue on my journey, i often outgrow people whose energy no longer is a good match for my own, and i'm feeling ok about that now because i have several people who have continued to grow and match alongside me.
you never know who your lifelong friends are until your life is long enough to value them as such.
Hi Alex. I love this 💜

I, too, have become more attuned as I have aged. The messages were always there. I just had to learn to listen, and to heed them.
Wow I feel so seen and this was total confirmation
This is beautiful 💓💓
